Known universally as the 'Freedom Church' the A.M.E. Zion church was birthed out of the oppression of the John Street Methodist Episcopal in New York. Within this church, African- American were dehumanized whether in the community or within the congregation. One of our founding fathers, Bishop James Varick, led a group of members from this oppressive church, and they developed a church where African- Americans would be free to worship.
From the early stages, God has blessed the A.M.E. Zion church to become an internationally recognized church, with churches in Africa, England, and in various other places around the world. The African Methodist Episcopal Zion church has been at the forefront of Underground Railroad (Harriet Tubman & Sojourner Truth) and the educational advancement of African- Americans (Frederick Douglass).
WE ARE THE FREEDOM CHURCH! We continue to strive to be who God would have us to be. We continue to be released from what would hold us back. We seek to be an instrument of freedom from all types of oppression, bondage, and strongholds. Our desire is that we would help you discover your purpose and everything that the Lord has for you.
